Puyallup Fair Announces Wynonna with Tacoma Symphony on Sept. 21
Tickets on Sale May 9 at 10 a.m. at all Ticketmaster Ticket Centers
Puyallup, WA – May 1, 2009 – Touted by Rolling Stone Magazine as “the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline,” Wynonna is celebrating 25 years of her epic journey in the music industry from her start as one half of The Judds. Known for hit songs “Sing,” “Mama He’s Crazy,” and “Love Can Build a Bridge,” Wynonna is a superstar in her own right, with 10 million albums sold, six platinum-plus/gold-plus albums, 16 Top Ten hits, and ACM’s Top Female Vocalist of the Year.
Wynonna with the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra featuring Harvey Felder, Music Director will be held on Monday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The concert, part of Columbia Bank’s Puyallup Fair Concert Series will start selling tickets on Saturday, May 9 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster. Ticket prices are $15 / $25 / $35, and $50 for Golden Circle, and include Fair gate admission, and seats are reserved.
Wynonna’s seventh studio album, Sing: Chapter 1 has recently been released, and critics are standing up and taking notice. It is the first studio album in six years for Wynonna, and she pays homage to 11 country, rock, blues and soul-baring standards originated by legendary artists. “If you want to hear a singer’s singer,” says All Music Guide, “one who can move you to the core of your being – Wynonna Judd’s deeply moving, authentic Sing: Chapter 1 is a fine place to begin. This may be her finest hour.”
In 2005 she released an autobiography, Come Home To Myself. In this New York Times bestseller, she shared many struggles over adversity throughout her career. The book complemented her autobiographical musical journey, Her Story: Scenes From A Lifetime. The album was a double-live gold-plus certified CD and DVD, which hit #2 on the Top Country Album charts.
It was in 1992 that Wynonna broke away from the mother-daughter duo of The Judds with her solo career and accompanying record-breaking, quintuple platinum debut CD, Wynonna. The album reached #1 on the Country chart and loomed in the Top 5 of Billboard’s Top Albums chart – and produced four #1 singles. With hits like “She Is His Only Need,” “I Saw the Light,” and “No One Else on Earth,” Wynonna has remained one of the country’s most recognizable, yet unpredictable icons.
Wynonna and her mother Naomi launched The Judds in the early 1980s, and the duo was credited with “single-handedly saving country music,” according to Time magazine. Their dedication to family love and rural values caught the attention of fans of all genres of music. They were CMA’s Country Duo of the Year in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991. They were five-time Grammy award winners, and sold 20 million records, capturing multiple gold, platinum and multi-platinum certifications from the RIAA. Visit www.wynonna.com.
The 2008-2009 season marks the 15th anniversary of Harvey Felder’s tenure as music director of the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Felder has led the growth of the TSO from a community orchestra to a regional professional orchestra of 80-plus musicians from throughout the Puget Sound region. Under the baton of Mr. Felder, the versatile ensemble is known for its warm, friendly concert environment coupled with artistically excellent renderings of the great symphonic classics, entertaining pops, educational programs, and intimate chamber performances.
